You Can Hear The Song of This Town, Mr (Phoenix Art Museum)
March 12 – April 12
Phoenix Art Museum’s Mr.: You can Hear the Song of this Town is the first U.S. solo show in five years that exclusively features the imaginative and visually complex work of Mr., a contemporary Japanese artist. Mr. is a self-described member of otaku culture. Mr. is a feverishly-tinted artist who creates cartoon-like sculptures and paintings and video and installation works. These works combine high and lower cultures to explore themes of desire, fantasy, and trauma in Japanese society and a global audience obsessed with social media.

Rotraut at Desert Botanical Garden: Playing with Stars (Desert Botanical Garden)
Through May 14
Rotraut’s large-scale, bold sculptures will liven up the Garden trails. A selection of her paintings, as well as small sculptures, will fill the Ottosen gallery. Rotraut, a world-renowned artist based in Arizona, explores the energy and relationship between nature and the sky, sun, and universe.
Discover Treasures: Legendary Music Instruments (Musical Instrument Museum)

This exhibition features 28 new acquisitions as well as loans of historical importance. It allows guests to see some rare instruments of their type, including those owned by music icons such as Eric Clapton and Lionel Hampton.
